This publication is a continuation of work that began during my PhD on disease suppressive soils. Part of this research was published as a chapter of my thesis. Later, Jayi Jing took the lead and, together with an amazing consortium, continued uncovering the mechanisms underlying disease suppressiveness.
In brief, the microbiome of a highly disease-suppressive soil was dissected using a dilution-to-extinction approach. Combined with multi-omics analyses, this strategy enabled the development of a simple microbial consortium that retained disease-suppressive activity.
In other words, the microbiome was squeezed down to its very essence!
